Holmen golf aiming for team trip to state
2012 state runners-up eager to return to Madison
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — After a couple MVC meet wins and some impressive showings at tournaments around the state, the Holmen golf team is ranked No. 4 by the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin.
But they say they’re not focused on that.
They’re focused on making it back to state as a team.
The Vikings finished second as a team at state in 2012, but last season, just missed qualifying. Only Tyler Church made it as an individual. He finished 9th but said without the rest of his Vikings, it was somewhat bittersweet.
“Seeing one guy play instead of the whole team really just kind of felt different. I wanted the whole team there,” junior Eric Olson said.
“It was obviously nice to see Tyler go, that we could send one of our players. But it was tough that the entire team didn’t get to go as a whole,” senior Connor Frawley said. “I’m sure Tyler felt the same way.”
“I wish the whole team would have went,” Church said.
“I feel like if we go, we can make a run at it too, and we’ve got a really good team this year. So I’m hoping we can get down there and try to win it.”
