Holmen Police Department considering starting reserve police unit
Department seeking interested volunteers
HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) — Additional law enforcement opportunities are being made possible in Holmen.
The Holmen Police Department is looking to form a police reserve unit made up of volunteer citizens.
The police department will train volunteers in traffic control and patrolling local events. They could also learn about defensive arrest tactics and take firearm training.
Holmen’s Chief of Police says its a great chance for people to give back to their communities and for prospective officers to experience policing.
“You know, students that think they want to come into the field of law enforcement, well this is a chance for them to get their feet wet a little bit to see if they like what police work is,” said Holmen Police Department Chief Shane Collins.
An exact training regimen is still being developed.
This would be the first year of the Holmen Police Reserve unit. Interested volunteers can contact the Holmen Police Department on its website or Facebook page.
The reserve officers would not be carrying weapons.
