Houston motivated to make history vs. Kingsland
This time of year on the hardwood, teams are looking for a reason to play “One Shining Moment” and cut down some nets.
Tonight Houston girls basketball has a chance to have such a moment as they play for a Section 1A title and what would be the first trip to State in program history.
And what a matchup it will be for the Hurricanes tonight in Rochester, as they battle the three seed Kingsland Knights. Houston coach Dale Moga says the Knights use a tough 2-3 matchup zone defense and can really hit the three ball.
The two teams met about a month ago, and Houston erased a 13-point deficit in the second half to win 52-50.
For Coach Moga, his five seniors and the rest of the Hurricanes, this undefeated season has felt special, and there’s a belief they can get the job done for their community.
“Throughout Houston history we haven’t been a winning team for basketball or women’s sports in general,” senior Emma Geiwitz said, “so to bring recognition to Houston to prove that we can would mean everything for everyone.”
Tipoff in Rochester is 7 p.m. News 8 Now Sports will have a full game recap tonight during News 8 Now at Ten.
