Hundreds celebrate World Down Syndrome Day
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Communities across the world are coming together Sunday and Monday to celebrate those born with an extra chromosome.
World Down Syndrome Day is actually Monday, but the local Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin hosted its 6th celebration on Sunday.
The day is a global event to raise awareness for those living with Down Syndrome.
Sunday’s celebration is way to not only strengthen the community but to also create more connections in the area.
“It’s mostly just about coming in, having fun, letting the families get together, having the public see how wonderful and how much more alike than different these kids are,” said Kimberly Grosskopf, the event coordinator for Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin.
About 300 people made their way out to All Star Banquets in La Crosse for the event.
