Hundreds of teens compete in rodeo

More than 100 teens competed in a different kind of sport Sunday.

The Wisconsin High School Rodeo Association held a regional event in Holmen.

115 kids from grades 6-12 competed. Events included barrel racing, horse riding and roping. Some of the kids have been competing in rodeos since they were 6 years old.

They say competing in the high school rodeo is just like competing in any other sport. “You gotta watch your grades and make sure you do everything right in school because the Principal and everything has to sign off on it, it’s just like a regular school event but you’re not in a gym and you’re not on a school grounds,” said competitor Mason Gukenberger.

Teens from five different states competed in the rodeo.
