Hundreds sign up for Kids Fishing Day
Genoa National Fish Hatchery hosts ice fishing event
GENOA, Wis. (WKBT) — Hundreds of kids learn about ice fishing safety and ice fishing techniques Saturday.
It was all part of Kids Fishing Day hosted by the Genoa National Fish Hatchery.
Kids could fish in 1 of 220 fishing holes found on the frozen hatchery pond. They were also taught about safety as well as important techniques to know when fishing.
Organizers say it was a great way to get kids of out of the house during winter months.
“Kids are in front of their X-Boxes and everything else and don’t get this experience and then they get a chance to get out here. It’s all free, the fishing poles they can use and everything else, it’s all provided for them finally giving them a chance to get outdoors,” said Gary Beardmore, president of Friends of the Upper Mississippi River Fisheries Services.
