Hunger Task Force in need of donations

An area organization is asking for your help in feeding the hungry.

The Hunger Task Force in La Crosse says this is the time of year when food pantry shelves start to look a little bare.

Since they supply all of the food pantries in the area, they’re also experiencing a shortage.

They say kids being home for the summer puts extra strain on families having trouble putting food on the table.

The program’s executive director says every little bit helps this time of year.

“We’re needing just about everything, but the basic things that I always tell people we are in need of are going to be your tuna, your pasta, and pasta sauce. We’re needing peanut butter, those staples that you always have and can make a good meal,” said Hunger Task Force Exec. Dir. Shelly Fortner.

The Hunger Task Force says all donations are appreciated, but cash helps even more than food since they can buy food at reduced rates.

They’re also holding their annual ‘Taste of the Garden’ fundraiser Thursday, Aug. 20.

It runs from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Kane Street Community Garden. Admission is $25 per person which includes garden-inspired appetizers from local chefs, as well as beer and wine tasting.
