Vernon County kids learn about hunter and gun safety
The Vernon County Law Enforcement Association returned this year with the 51st annual Hunter Safety Rifle Match
WESTBY, Wis (WKBT) – Kids in Vernon County were able to learn about hunter and gun safety, and test out their marksmanship.
The Vernon County Law Enforcement Association returned this year with its 51st Hunter Safety Rifle Match.
Kids aged 10 to 15 learn safety around guns and hunting.
Because the event was canceled last year, 16-year-olds who would have been 15 for last year’s event were also invited.
For the shooting competition, participants had to shoot a target from 50 feet out.
They’re then scored, and trophies and prizes are given to the best shots.
While there is a lot of fun and games, the main goal is to promote gun safety.
“The biggest thing is the gun safety. We want all the youth to understand the importance of a firearm. What it can do, what it’s designed to do, and for hunting purposes,” said Deputy William Roesler of the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
