Ice dancing medals awarded in PyeongChang
Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir were golden once again Tuesday at the PyeongChang Olympics.
A day after setting a world record with their short dance performance, the Canadian ice dancers topped the free dance portion of the competition to win gold.
They scored 122.40 with their free dance for a total of 206.07, just edging out France’s Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, whose free dance score of 123.35 gave them a total of 205.28.
Virtue and Moir won silver in ice dancing four years ago in Sochi and were gold medal winners in 2010. They also won a gold in the team figure skating event as part of Team Canada earlier in PyeongChang and own a silver from the 2014 team event.
After finding themselves in fourth place following Monday’s short dance, American brother-and-sister team Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani scored 114.86 in their free dance to jump over some USA teammates to win bronze with a total of 192.59.
Americans Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue, who were in third after the short dance, finished in fourth place with an overall score of 187.69.
The other American duo in the event, Madison Chock and Evan Bates, fell during their free dance and finished in ninth place.
