Ice fisherman drowns in Marinette County

MARINETTE, Wis. (AP) — A fisherman broke through thin ice on a flowage in Marinette County and drowned.

Sheriff’s officials say they got a call about 1 p.m. Tuesday reporting that someone may have fallen through the ice on High Falls Flowage in the Town of Stephenson.

The sheriff’s department’s dive team recovered the body of a 69-year-old man about three hours later. The Marinette County coroner says the cause of death is drowning.

Sheriff officials have issued a warning about thin ice, especially on rivers and flowages which have stronger currents.
