Importance of increasing ventilation indoors during pandemic

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Facilities are beginning to reopen; social distancing guidelines and mask mandates are in place, but some fear it can spread through our heating and air conditioning systems.

HVAC professionals are using devices like air purifiers and UV lights to kill the bacteria that travels through ductwork, making the air cleaner and fresher.

Increasing ventilation is also recommended to ensure recycled air is diluted and fresh air is brought in.

“The biggest concern is the HVAC system can transport the virus throughout the spaces. We need to do a good job of filtering the air and putting better filtration in, so a lot of our customers have been looking at that, but also increasing the amount of ventilation. Bringing in more outside air then the building currently has”, said Mark Schneider, Owner of Schneider Heating & Air Conditioning.

Even with top of the line filtration systems and ventilation in place, the risk of exposure is still present while indoors, which is why it’s important to follow safety guidelines.
