Improvements proposed for Clinton St. in La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Changes could be coming to Clinton St. on La Crosse’s north side.

Officials from La Crosse County and the City of La Crosse held a public meeting Tuesday night.

They were informing residents about proposed  improvements on Clinton Street from Bainbridge Street to Avon Street.

Some of the improvements involve re-painting lanes on the road to include a center turn lane and designated bike lanes.

Health educators for the county say the project will provide kids a safer way to get to and from school.  

“By providing a designated bike lane, it gives kids and all riders a designated space verses riding in the same lane as traffic or on the sidewalk. Sidewalk is safer for some kids depending on their capabilities when riding, but it also proposes some hazards,” said Virginia Loehr.

Construction is currently scheduled for the summer, depending on availability of federal funding.
