Inferno aftermath propels detour for Hwy. 53 north through downtown La Crosse

The detour, to be in place until further notice, affects all vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Hwy. 53 north through downtown La Crosse is detoured because of a blaze that destroyed a building near Fourth and King streets Thursday morning.

The detour starts at Fourth and Cass Street, goes east to Seventh Street, then north on Seventh to La Crosse Street and finally, west to Fourth and La Crosse, according to the city Street Department.

The detour, to be in place until further notice, affects all vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

The fire inside the India Curry House, formerly the Hunan Chinese restaurant, began shortly after 4 a.m. and progressed into a larger fire a few hours later.
