Inmate from Illinois dies in eastern Iowa jail

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — An autopsy is scheduled for a Scott County Jail inmate who was found unresponsive in his cell.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office says Friday that correctional officers found 54-year-old Oscar Orlando Najera unresponsive Thursday night.

Medics were called and Najera was taken to a Davenport hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office says a cause of death hasn’t been determined. An autopsy is planned for Saturday.

Najera was booked into the jail Nov. 15 for a charge of third degree intoxication. He listed his last known residence as Rock Island, Ill.
