School board approves Troy McDonald as interim principal for 2016-2017

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse’s school board is approving an interim principal at interim associate principal at Central High School.

The board held a special meeting Monday night to give approval on a number of jobs that were filled over the summer, including the appointment of Troy McDonald as the interim principal at Central.

McDonald will take over for Jeff Fleig, who announced his resignation two weeks ago and accepted a job in the suburban Milwaukee area. The board also approved Central Dean of Students Jeff Axness as interim associate principal.

Both McDonald and Axness will hold their new roles for the upcoming school year while officials look for a longterm solution.

“It’s not the prime time for us to be be looking for candidates and so we’ll take a look at the situation sometime (in the winter), evaluate the situation and decide how to move forward,” said Superintendent Randy Nelson.

The changes at Central cap off a summer of change for the school district, which will see 70 new teachers in classrooms this year.
