International women share their stories of perseverance, overcoming inequality

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – People are celebrating women around the world, including right here in La Crosse.

International Women’s Day recognizes women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements.

It also raises awareness about inequality and other challenges women face.

To celebrate the day UW-La Crosse and the American Association of University Women hosted a panel on campus.

Four international speakers from Kosovo, Myanmar (Burma), Pakistan, and Poland shared their experiences, including insights on what women’s equality looks like in their home countries compared to the U.S.

It’s a chance to see how much women have overcome.

“Opportunities like this are extremely important just to help create awareness for the public and community, stimulate that conversation,” said Miranda Pancer, UWL International Student Advisor.

International Women’s Day has been celebrated for over a century.

This year’s theme is Equal for All.
