Iowa-based bank helps make Habitat home a reality in Winona

WINONA, Minn. — A Winona family will soon have a place to call home.

Thanks to support from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, Habitat for Humanity was able to add an additional project this summer in Winona. The bank serves a five state area including Minnesota.

Employees set a goal of building five habitat houses over the next five years and with the first one in Winona. Along with the man power, the company also provided a $75,000 grant to help with materials and professional services.

The bank’s CEO says it’s a great experience for the employees from its headquarters and a chance to interact with local affiliates. “Two of our members here in Winona, the Winona National Bank and Merchants Bank, stepped up and said, ‘hey we want to be a part of this too’, so some of their employees are working with us this week and they’ve provided local hospitality and support while we’re here,” says the President and CEO of Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines.

The home should be ready for the family by Christmas.
