Iowa City, Johnson County get funding for officers

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Federal funding will help the Iowa City Police Department hire two more officers and help the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office hire another deputy.

Under provisions of the award from a U.S. Department of Justice program, all three must be military veterans who have served at least 180 days since Sept. 11, 2001.

Iowa City will get $250,000 and Johnson County will get $125,000.

The program provides the salary and benefits for officer and deputy hires for three years.
