Iowa college remains quiet on basketball forfeit

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — Southeastern Community College officials aren’t commenting on a decision to forfeit the rest of the men’s basketball season after 10 players were kicked off the team amid questions about a campus burglary.

The Hawk Eye in Burlington, citing a dispatch report, says a police officer was sent to the school late on December 16th after assistant coach Brian Turner reported a break-in at a bookstore. That night, the SCC men’s team won a home game against Black Hawk College.

The newspaper says the officer was told the burglary would be handled internally, and no incident report was logged.

When SCC President Beverly Simone was asked about the burglary, she told the Hawk Eye the school hasn’t reported a burglary. She referred to the players’ dismissal and declined further comment.
