Iowa guard intentionally misses to preserve late star’s record
Iowa sophomore point guard Jordan Bohannon purposely missed a free throw Sunday to preserve a record set by late Hawkeye legend Chris Street.
Bohannon, who helped Iowa win the game over Northwestern 77-70 with his hot hand from beyond the 3-point line, stood at the foul line at Carver-Hawkeye Arena late in the second half with chance for his 35th consecutive free throw.
That would have broken the record of 34 set by Street, who died in a car accident midway through the 1993 season.
Instead, the Iowa native pointed to the sky and intentionally missed the free throw.

“That’s not my record to have,” Bohannon told the Big Ten Network after the game. “That record deserves to stay in his name.”
Bohannon scored 25 points in the game with 21 of those points coming on 3-pointers alone.
The Hawkeyes improved their record to 13-18 on the season with the win in their home finale and clinched the No. 12 seed for the Big Ten tournament with a 4-14 conference record.
