Iowa man accused of side-swiping police cars
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa City police say a 22-year-old man was intoxicated when he side-swiped two police cars with their lights on and nearly hit an officer on a bicycle.
KGAN reports that Andrew Lange of Maquoketa is facing several charges after the incident around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Police say the officers were parked with their emergency lights on because they were responding to an assault when the accident happened.
They say Lange was driving without his headlights on when he veered into the line of police cars.
Police say Lange smelled strongly of alcohol and struggled with officers during his arrest. He refused to take sobriety tests.
Lange is suspected of drunken driving and interfering with police.
