Iowa man steps forward to fill mayor’s seat
LIBERTYVILLE, Iowa (AP) — A Libertyville man has stepped forward to fill the void in the mayor’s chair.
Darryl “Jack” Davison was appointed during a special City Council meeting last week.
The Fairfield Ledger reports that the office had remained open after the position was turned down by two people who received write-in votes in November’s election.
Davison told the newspaper that he had been hesitant to seek outright election because he’d lived in the southeast Iowa town of about 300 people for only two years.
He’d read that the job had been declined twice and that outgoing Mayor Michelle Stump wanted to spend more time on her new job.
Davison says he didn’t see anybody else coming forward, so he decided to see what he could do for his community.
