Iowa officials say 2 men injured when helicopter crashed
Authorities say two men were injured when their helicopter went down in northwest Iowa.
Lyon County Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep (VAN’-dur stoop) says the helicopter crashed into a rural Inwood field around 1:20 p.m. Monday after striking an electrical wire. The two were taken to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, hospitals. The men’s names haven’t been released.
Vander Stoep says the men had been searching for missing cattle. He didn’t know who owned the helicopter.
Federal officials will investigate the crash.
Rock Rapids utility manager Jim Hoye says the power line that was struck feeds his city, so electricity was knocked out for 10 to 15 minutes.
