Iowa sex offender accused of failing to register
WIOTA, Iowa (AP) — A southwest Iowa man has been arrested, accused of failing to register as a sex offender.
Radio station KJAN says 31-year-old Matthew Steffens, of Wiota, was arrested Tuesday. He’s also accused of violating the Iowa law on residency restrictions.
Both are felonies that carry maximum prison terms of five years.
Steffens has bonded out of Cass County jail. A public phone listing for him could not be found. Online court records don’t list the name of his attorney.
Steffens was convicted in September 2003 of sex abuse involving a 13-year-old girl in Shelby County. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
