Iowan faces new charges tied to jail escape

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Several new charges have been filed against a man who escaped from Black Hawk County Jail in Waterloo last week.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier says 25-year-old Jeremy Mask, of Traer, is charged with felony escape, felony eluding, second-degree theft, third-degree burglary and two counts of operating a vehicle without the owners’ consent.

Mask remains in jail. He was captured Friday morning south of La Porte City. He escaped Thursday afternoon.

Deputies say Mask stole four vehicles after his escape and is suspected of stealing from a Toledo pharmacy while on the run.

Mask also is awaiting trial on a Waterloo robbery charge.

Mask’s attorney didn’t immediately return a call Tuesday from The Associated Press.
