Iowan gets probation for bonfire crash death

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A 19-year-old has been given five years of probation for the crash death of a 17-year-old during a party at a bonfire near Davenport.

The Quad-City Times says Cody Lantau had made a plea deal that included probation.

Lantau was charged with vehicular homicide for the death of 17-year-old William Schwener, of Davenport.

A group of teenagers had gathered in a field near Davenport on Dec. 12. Police say Schwener was standing outside a parked car when he was hit and pinned against a car. He died at the scene.

Police say Lantau had lost control of an SUV that he was driving in the field, and the SUV hit Schwener.
