Iowan’s sentence includes pot essay
BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — A judge in Burlington has ordered a 19-year-old to write an essay on why she began smoking marijuana and how to go about quitting.
The Hawk Eye reports that Judge Michael Schilling ordered Brittany Reynolds to compose the piece as one of the conditions of her one-year probation. She’d been convicted of possession of marijuana for sale and first offense drunken driving. The judgments were deferred, which the convictions could be removed from her record if she successfully completes probation.
She must submit the essay to the judge for his review.
Authorities say Reynolds used cellphone texts to solicit and take marijuana orders.
Reynolds was arrested in October after being pulled over for having a broken brake light.
