Ithaca-Weston’s Peterson wins gold in D3 400M
Ithaca-Weston sophomore Kaylee Peterson came into Saturday’s WIAA State Track & Field finals with the top seeded time in the 400 meter run, and she backed up her prelim performance by running an even better time to win gold in the event.
Peterson crossed the line at 58.75 seconds, while Luther’s Rachel Koenig took fourth and Kickapoo-La Farge senior Anelise Egge took fifth.
Peterson said she had confidence going in, but the last 100 meters proved to be the deciding moment.
“I’ve been so determined this year to get on that podium and I did it, and it’s so exciting. It was a little stressful, the last part of the last 100, but I kicked it in and I got it.”
Peterson would later take fifth place in the 800 run.
