LA CROSSE, Wis, (WKBT) — Two of our community members are being recognized as spiritual role models on Wednesday.
Father Larry Berger and Sandra Brekke are this year’s Iverson Freking Award Winners.
The two were honored on Wednesday at the Radisson in La Crosse by Bethany Saint Joseph for their spiritual service in the community.
Berger holds multiple religious leadership roles throughout the area while Brekke serves as the mission director for St. Clare Health Mission. Each says it’s an honor to be recognized for helping those in the community that need the most.
“There’s a lot of satisfaction in being there for people. You discover each person has their own story and you discover some really beautiful and neat things about the people your with,” said Iverson Freking Award Recipient Father Larry Berger.
“There are a lot things that need to happen in communities where really it’s nobody’s job and really to make a strong community, volunteering is an opportunity to give back,” said Iverson Freking Award Recipient Sandy Brekke.
This is the 29th year of the award.
More than 60 people have been honored for their work in the community.
