Jackson Co. garage a total loss after fire

No injuries; cause unknown

The Black River Falls Fire Department is investigating the cause of a garage fire Thursday afternoon.

The fire department was called out about 1:40 p.m. for smoke coming from a garage located at 326 Sterling Ave. in the Township of Brockway.

When firefighters arrived on scene, flames were coming from the front of the wood frame unattached three bay garage. Firefighters quickly started attacking the fire to protect and save a single family home nearby.

The garage and everything inside it are a total loss. The nearby home did have some heat damage to its siding.

The fire chief says the owner was next door at another family member’s home at the time and discovered the fire coming from the garage when he was walking home.

There were no injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire department is conducting a “Keep the Wreath Green” fire prevention campaign this year for the first time. The fire will be the first red bulb to be placed in the wreath which will be done for every structure fire that happens in the county until New Year’s Day.
