JJ Watt donates $10K to fund for family in Hwy. 30 wreck
Former Badgers football star and current pro NFL player JJ Watt donated thousands of dollars Friday to an online fund for the family affected by the fatal Highway 30 wreck.
On Friday morning, JJ Watt contributed $10,000 to the YouCaring fund for Jenni Steiner and Kirk U’Ren, of Cottage Grove, who were struck by a car on Highway 30 near Fair Oaks Avenue Sunday in Madison. Kirk died at the scene and Jennifer was in critical condition at the hospital as of Wednesday.
Through his after-school sports foundation, the Justin J. Watt Foundation, Watt’s mother Connie confirmed to News 3 that it was JJ Watt who made the donation.
Kirk U’Ren left behind 1-year-old twin sons Kaden and Grayson.
In a message posted with the donation, Watt wrote:
“This is terrible news to hear. Kirk was a big help to our foundation in the early years and was always so energetic and upbeat. My thoughts are with Jenni and the whole family and if there is any way that I can help, please let me know.”
As of 11 a.m. Friday, the fund had raised more than $76,000. The initial goal was $25,000.
The Kids’ Safari Learning Center in Cottage Grove, which the twins have attended since they were infants, said after the crash that it would cover the boys’ tuition.

A GoFundMe page was also created for the U’Ren twins at Gofundme.com/U-RenFamilySupport.
