Josephine M. Nachtigal, age 105 years, of Yuba, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at Pine Valley Healthcare in Richland Center.

Josephine M. Nachtigal, age 105 years, of Yuba, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at Pine Valley Healthcare in Richland Center.

She was born on February 27, 1914 to William Z. and Mary (Bulin) Stanek in Hillsboro. She attended Mc Kenzie School on Debello Ridge. When she started grade school, she could not speak English and Julia Rosol was her interpreter. Josephine graduated from the Hillsboro High School in 1931. She lived with her grandparents during the school years because there were no buses.

Josephine met George Nachtigal at a New Year’s Eve dance in Yuba and they were married on June 4, 1936 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Yuba. They lived at George’s grandparent’s farm and in 1944, they bought a farm in Bloom Township and lived there until 1977 when they built a home in Yuba so they could be near the Church. George preceded her in death on November 22, 1996.

Josephine was a member of the Cesky Den Choir, the Yuba Homemakers, Yuba Election Board, and the St. Wenceslaus / Aloysius Catholic Churches, the Altar Society and also taught Catechism at Yuba. She enjoyed dancing and later in life, a glass of wine.

Survivors include her children, Mary Jo (George) Schumacher, Barbara (Francis) Seep, Francis (Marie) Nachtigal, Patricia (Jerry) Leslie, George David (Dianne) Nachtigal, Tim (Jackie) Nachtigal and Frederick (Angela) Nachtigal; daughter-in-law, Patricia Nachtigal; 24 Grandchildren; 40 Great Grandchildren and 21 Great Great Grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, George; she was preceded in death by her Parents; son, James Nachtigal; a Granddaughter and 3 brothers, Robert, George and James Stanek.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hillsboro, with Father Don Bauer officiating.
