Judge rules sex offender a risk, can face trial
ROCKWELL CITY, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa judge has ruled the state met its burden in showing a sex offender is a public risk and should face trial on whether he should be committed to a state-run facility for sexually violent predators.
The Des Moines Register reported that Judge Gary McMinimee issued his ruling following a hearing Monday in Rockwell City. The Iowa attorney general’s office argued William Cubbage is a sexual predator and should be committed to the Civil Commitment Unit For Sex Offenders in Cherokee.
Cubbage lived in the unit from 2002 to 2010, before he was released to a nursing home in Pomeroy. He allegedly confessed to sexual contact with an elderly nursing home resident before an August incident that led to his removal from the home.
Cubbage declined to comment.
