Julian Bradley wins GOP primary for secretary of state

Bradley to faces Democrat Doug La Follette, Constitution Party candidate Jerry Broitzman

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Republican Party activist Julian Bradley has won the GOP Wisconsin primary for secretary of state, defeating state Rep. Garey Bies.

Bradley has traveled more than 40,000 miles since January, launching a grassroots campaign for the office.

He won his an endorsement from the state GOP, and three straw polls.

But the 33-year-old Bradley said there was no point talking about eliminating the office, since the decision is up to lawmakers. He says he wants to reform the office and work to restore its powers.

“Everybody has talked about the duties and responsibilities to the office of Secretary of State, and in order to get a lot of those restored it’s going to take an act of the Legislature,” said Bradley, “the most important duty or responsibility of any elected official is to be an ambassador to people that they represent, that only takes an act of the voters, and by voting for me on November 4th you’ll get that right away.”

Bies was willing to work toward eliminating the office. The 67-year-old pledged to help strengthen or eliminate the office, whichever voters preferred.

Bradley now advances to the Nov. 4 general election. He’ll face incumbent Democrat Doug La Follette and Constitution Party candidate Jerry Broitzman.
