LA CROSSE (WKBT) – Community members came together to celebrate Juneteenth in La Crosse.
The federal holiday marks the anniversary of when troops arrived in Galveston Texas to free enslaved African Americans.
In La Crosse, local businesses were highlighted during the event in Riverside Park which also included food, music and education.
The day is a chance for everyone to celebrate.
“It acknowledges the liberation and freedom of black people. And it centers around black identity and black voices. And I think when everyone works together to celebrate and uplift the community, we all are lifted up,” said Black Leaders Acquiring Collective Knowledge.
