Kane St. Community Garden volunteers harvest produce

Volunteers spent time at the Kane Street Community Garden Thursday pulling weeds and harvesting produce that’s ready to go.

The garden coordinator Tom Huffman says they’re a little behind due to the weather, but things are starting to grow like crazy.

He’s still waiting for the first tomato, but in the meantime there’s plenty of variety like cabbage, carrots and zucchini. One plant you won’t see this year is peas.

“Normally peas you want to plant them real early, they do great in April, in cool weather, but it was too wet to plant, so now when it got warm, we just figured we’d plant more beans,” Huffman said.

Harvests happen every Monday and Thursday afternoon… and Saturday mornings. And anyone who helps can take something home.
