Kia unveils new Telluride SUV
Kia officially launched its all-new Telluride three-row SUV Monday at the North American International Auto Show.
This isn’t quite the first time we’ve seen the largest Kia in the lineup. Kia actually brought an early copy of the car to New York Fashion Week last fall, but that one was covered in extra lights, beefy tires and loads of gear intended to look like the truck was about to go on safari.
The version shown in Detroit this week is the production model that deletes all the extra bits in favor of comfort and economy for up to eight people.
The Telluride also has a long list of standard safety features, like blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.
Powering the big Kia is a 3.8-liter V6, good for 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. All that power gets to the wheels through an eight-speed transmission. The SUV has standard front-wheel drive, with an all-wheel-drive system available.
A standard eight-inch touchscreen is in the center of the dashboard to connect to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and to control functions like entertainment and climate control. On some models, that screen gets upgraded to a 10.25-inch version.
Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control. A heads-up display and high-beam assist are optional.
Pricing for the SUV will be announced closer to when it goes on sale later this year.
