Kickapoo cross country used pandemic as motivation to make state for first time in history
VIOLA, Wis. (WKBT)–For the last few years, a state appearance was just outside the reach for the Kickapoo/La Farge cross country team.
The team had won conference two years in a row but had not qualified for state.
They were hoping this would be the year, and when the pandemic got in the way they just used it as motivation, as they’ve now qualified for the first time.
“I think the pandemic made us work harder than any other year because we knew that the next practice or that practice could be our last so we knew we had to keep pushing ourselves harder and harder,” said Senior Tahmara Hendrickson. “The week before our conference race we wrote letters to the school board telling how far we’d come how many things were already canceled, we wanted to do our best this season so badly it just made us work harder.”
The team is part of the 9:30 am session on Saturday. Anelise Egge leads the team after taking 6th as an individual at State a year ago.
