Kids Coulee playground at Myrick Park to begin first phase of renovations

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — On Monday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to commemorate the upcoming renovation of the Kids Coulee Playground at Myrick Park.

The playground, which was built in 1994, has existed for 28 years.

Dan Trussoni, the parks, forestry and facilities director of the La Crosse Parks and Recreation Department, said he hopes the first phase of the project will begin in the fall and conclude this winter.

“We’re going to keep the bones of the existing structure that is still in good condition and kind of replace some of the wood that has shown it’s age,” he said.

Trussoni added that the parks department is still asking for public input on the second phase of the project.

15 area businesses are donating resources to help with the renovations, according to officials.

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Athletic Director Kim Blume said she hopes more UWL student-athletes head to the playground at Myrick Park to converse with local kids.

“We hope that our student-athletes will see this as a project that they are involved in,” Blume said.

According to Trussoni, the first phase of the project is expected to cost around $400,000, with $250,000 coming from the city and $150,000 from UWL.
