Kids Ice Fishing Day lets kids catch their first frozen water fish

The Genoa National Fish Hatchery held their 10 th annual Kids Ice Fishing Day on Sunday.

After talk about how to stay safe on the ice, the kids could try their hand at catching rainbow trout. Although trout season is over, the hatchery got a special permit so the kids could catch up to three fish.

The manager of the hatchery, Doug Aloisi, said kids who fished at the event almost a decade ago have come back and told him how great the experience was.

“My favorite part is to see the joy on their faces when they catch their first fish through the ice. A lot of these children have never been ice fishing or caught a fish through the ice, so it’s kid of a special day for them and their families,” said Aloisi.

The event had been rescheduled to Sunday due to the weather conditions Saturday.
