Kids in La Crosse participate in geocaching camp

La Crosse Area Family YMCA host 4-day event

The La Crosse Area Family YMCA is holding its annual geocaching camp this week.

It’s the 5th year for the four-day event. Geocaching is a technology-based scavenger hunt with kids using GPS coordinates to find items hidden in parks and forests.

After taking a day to learn the techniques on Monday, the kids went to Myrick Park on Tuesday to give it a try. Event organizers said it’s a fun way to get kids outside and see parts of nature they may not have seen before.

“I think it’s just a great way to stay active, to be healthy,” said Kyle Moll, youth sports director for the La Crosse Area Family YMCA. “The Y, you know, our focus is on youth development and a healthy lifestyle and this is kind of a unique way to promote that.”

Forty kids registered for this year’s camp, which runs through Thursday.
