Kiwanis Club’s community award banquet honors local students

A group of area students is getting noticed for something other than grades and athletics.

The Kiwanis Club held its 41st annual Community Award Banquet Tuesday at the Radisson Center. Teachers from 10 different high schools nominated a senior at their school.

The awards recognize students not only for what they do in school, but the impact they make outside of the classroom.

“We asked the staff not to overlook the average student, don’t necessarily only look at the “A” student, the star athlete, the class president. Look at the individual who is a star in their own way,” said Glenda Lee, chair of the La Crosse Kiwanis Club.

Each student received a plaque and a $300 scholarship for after graduation.
