Krispy Kreme to sell conversation heart doughnuts
If you’re heartbroken over the shortage of candy conversation hearts expected this Valentine’s Day, Krispy Kreme wants to be your valentine.
The chain is offering all-new Valentine Conversation Doughnuts topped with more than a dozen new and traditional edible phrases.
Along with traditional phrases usually seen on Valentine’s Day candy hearts such as “BE MINE,” the doughnuts will also feature phrases such as “DM ME” and “ALL THE FEELS.”
The tasty treats feature four Krispy Kreme classic fillings: Cake Batter, Strawberries & KREME, Raspberry Filled and Chocolate KREME.
Valentine Conservation Doughnuts will be available Jan. 30 through Valentine’s Day at participating Krispy Kreme locations. Krispy Kreme Rewards members can get one of the doughnuts free with any purchase on Feb. 6.
The doughnuts may help fill a void left by the lack of Sweethearts candy this year. The iconic candy hearts with romantic messages printed on them will be missing from shelves.
After Sweethearts’ original producer, New England Confectionary Company, also known as Necco, went out of business in July, the company’s Necco wafer brand and Sweethearts ended up being sold to Spangler Candy Company, best known for their Dum Dum lollipops.
The sale, completed in September, did not leave Spangler with time to produce the candy hearts for this Valentine season, but they are expected to return for 2020.
