Kwik Trip receives Exemplary Employer Award
Business employs about 150 individuals with disabilities
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A local company is recognized by the state for hiring individuals with disability.
Kwik Trip received an Exemplary Employer Award from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. It’s part of Disability Employment Month.
Right now Kwik Trip employs about 150 people with disabilities. Most were hired over the last year and a half.
Many of them are in a ‘retail helper’ role where they’re in charge of interacting with customers, keeping food stocked, and cleaning up.
“The retail helper takes pride in the jobs that maybe some of our co-workers don’t want to get to, but the retail helper takes pride in it, with a great personality, and it effects everybody in the store, it raises the morale,” said Return to Work Coordinator Joalyn Torderson.
The Department of Workforce Development says nearly 4,500 people with disabilities were hired in Wisconsin this year.
