LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The Apartment Association of the La Crosse Area served up a hefty donation of $7,075 to the La Crosse Police Department’s K-9 unit from proceeds of its meatball dinner in October and other donations.

AALA President Pamela Strittmater presented the donation in check form during the La Crosse Common Council meeting Thursday night, where K-9 Zeus stole the show, as he is wont to do.

The association adopted the K-9 unit as a cause five years ago because of members concerns about rising crime, Strittmater said.

The donation brought the association’s five-year total to the K-9 unit to more than $22,000, she said.

The annual dinner, which took place at American Legion Post 52, served 384 meals, according to the association’s Facebook page. The event also featured hundreds of baked goods and 40 silent auction items — as well as appearances by K-9s Loki and Thor and, of course, Zeus.
