La Crosse area boasts 2014 skiing, snowboarding title contenders
Western Wisconsin Alpine Conference has tough competition
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The Western Wisconsin Alpine Conference is the smallest in Wisconsin, but once again, it boasts some of the best competition on the slopes.
Central-Logan skier Abby Leinfelder should be in contention for a state championship this season. She won the Super-G last year, but fell just short of the overall title.
“I was just hoping to have a good G-S run at the end, and then I had a little bobble, but have a good run on every event and hopefully [that adds] up to a good finish,” Leinfelder said.
On the boys side, defending champs Nathan Bartley (AOWS, skiing) and Jack Pretasky (Central-Logan, snowboarding) both look to repeat in 2014.
“I feel like I’m getting looked up to now, like I’ll win again,” Pretasky said. “I’m just trying not to act like I’m going to win again and hopefully I will again.”
“It was an incredible feeling, one my goals I’ve been working for, even as a little kid,” said Bartley. “It gave me a lot more confidence in myself. Something I’ve been working on, just trying to be more confident in my technique and skiing fast.”
The second conference meet is Monday, January 13.
