La Crosse area seniors learn ‘Art of Compassion’
Free presentation part of ‘Successful Aging Program'
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Area seniors are learning how to stay young using the “Art of Compassion.”
Tom Thibodeau, director of the Master of Arts in Servant Leadership at Viterbo University, spoke about how having compassion can improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The free presentation is part of Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare’s “Successful Aging Program.” The presentation focused on the positive aspects of growing as an elder.
But most of all, Thibodeau said it teaches our seniors how important they are to our community.
“Well one of the things I say often is I know I am preaching to the choir, but sometimes a choir needs a little preaching too. Who doesn’t need a word of encouragement? Who doesn’t need a word of compassion? Who doesn’t need to reminded how good they are?” Thibodeau said.
Seminars are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 2:30 -3:30 p.m. in Marycrest Auditorium on the second floor of Mayo Clinic Health system Franciscan Skemp hospital building, 700 West Avenue South.
There will be other seminars and topics as part of the Successful Again Program on the fourth Tuesday of each month. For more information, contact Elder Services at (608) 392-9505.
