La Crosse area tourism leaders unsure of hotel impact of WIAA State Track and Field Tournament
State championships will take place over three days starting Thursday
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – We are now just two days away from the return of the WIAA State Track and Field Championships to La Crosse.
While thousands of athletes and thousands more fans are expected at UWL, hotels might not be as busy this year.
Staff with Explore La Crosse tell us that the WIAA is not promoting overnight stays for the championship.
This year’s format will allow athletes to compete in preliminary and finals events in the same day.
The change is making it harder to know exactly how busy the community will be.
“We know that individuals and teams are booking on their own. But it’s harder to track,” said Jeremiah Burish, sports and events director for Explore La Crosse.
A search of room availability finds a few rooms still available, but options are limited.
Most lodging we checked with did not show open rooms from Thursday to Saturday.
