La Crosse celebrates Neighbors Day
Event helps out disableds, elderly with yard work
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Community members came together to help out their neighbors Saturday.
La Crosse’s annual Neighbors Day kicked off Saturday morning, with the goal of helping the elderly and disabled get some yard work done. For 18 years, volunteers have come from churches, clubs and schools to lend a helping hand.
This year, 350 community members raked lawns, washed windows, and put their gardening skills to the test to help finish some of that spring cleaning for their neighbors.
“When you see who we’re helping, I think you see we are benefitting people who can’t live in their homes, who don’t have help. People who aren’t able to get out and clean up their yard like they used to,” said Heather Suby, chair of Neighbors Day. “I think this is a way to let people live in our community and stay in their homes.”
