La Crosse church members deliver presents to low-income families

Community goes door-to-door in northside neighborhood

A group of local community members is making sure no stocking goes unstuffed this Christmas.

Members from several different area churches handed out presents to low income residents living on La Crosse’s northside on Christmas Eve.

Two teams went door-to-door, making sure every family had something to unwrap during the holidays.

The idea came from one of the families in the group, who at one time lived in low income housing with her children.

“I just remember what it felt like at Christmas time, how difficult it was and how sad it was, and so when I was able to support my family and doing much better, I decided we wanted to give back,” said Wendi Johnson.

This was the fifth year the group has handed out presents.
